ABOUT ME

Hello,

My name is J.J. Medina, licensed marriage and family therapist (license #124026) and I appreciate your time in visiting this page. Below is a bit about myself and my approach so you can gauge if we're a good fit.

I graduated from the Wright Institute in Berkeley in 2017 after first completing my practicum at Union City Youth and Family Services. Since then I have worked at West Coast Children's Clinic from November 2017 to December 2021 where I predominantly served foster youth, families, and transition age youth seeking mental health services; often for the first time in their lives.

My approach to healing is rooted in the belief that we all have the capacity to be the best versions of ourselves that we want to be when we have appropriate access to the tools and supports that are often inaccessible to us in our day to day lives. Of the upmost importance in our work together will be forming a secure and authentic relationship with each other where you feel safe sharing your innermost wants and needs in a non-judgmental space, and forming a collaborative therapeutic alliance that helps you achieve the goals you strive for.

My specialties are: working complex trauma, working with LGBTQ+ populations, supporting clients through family estrangement, depression, and anxiety, and offering emotion focused couples therapy.
